I run Riposte Laboratories, a design company that turns discarded plastic and end-of-life battery cells into products. Around it I build hardware, software, a car head unit, a television channel and a magazine. This page lists that work.
Profile
I run Riposte Laboratories Inc., a design company in Kelowna that turns discarded plastic and end-of-life battery cells into products. Around it I build what the work needs: firmware, web tools, a car head unit, a television channel, a magazine.
Before Riposte I worked on optimal transport and optimisation. That code is in the research section.

Riposte Laboratories
Three material programmes, each with a published document number, plus the services around them.
Plastic Works
Post-industrial PS and ABS collected locally, then shredded, sorted and remanufactured by injection moulding.

Project HEX
Six reclaimed lithium cells in a hexagonal solar power tile. Tiles clip into arrays and clad the surface of a building. Patent pending.
Project SPOOL
Clear PET drink bottles to 1.75 mm 3D-printer filament, looped inside the Okanagan Regional Library makerspace in Kelowna.
Plastic Pickup
Book a pickup by text message. A small bot on a VoIP line reads the request and files the slot.
Riposte Shop
Tees and stickers printed in-house with DTF on recycled blanks. Embroidery from the same files.

Riposte Brand
Colour tokens, a JetBrains Mono type scale, a LaTeX package and a spec-sheet grammar. This page is set in it.
Hardware
Boards, firmware and parametric models, designed in the open and quoted for manufacture.
LibreVerre
Open-hardware smart glasses. Zephyr firmware, mechanical models and a filed design dossier.

Hopper
Sealed coffee bean hopper with a bottom dose valve and a nitrogen purge. Firmware in C, order pack quoted.

Shades
Non-planar lamp shades. The G-code is written straight from the surface, no slicer, for a Bambu X1C.

E-paper dashboard
A personal dashboard on a Waveshare panel, with a signed, declarative block registry so others can add blocks without code.

Riposte × sfz
A jewellery line built from parametric meshes and quoted for casting. Logo stamp moulds from the same repo family.

Iris Lox
A ball-lock fastener, fully parametric, with a script that checks every variant before anything is printed.

MagSafe wall dock
Wall-mounted charging dock for iPhone, Apple Watch and AirPods. Apple's vector drawings rasterised for fit.
Automotive
Choiceway GT6-EAUAn aftermarket Android head unit, rooted and rebuilt from the launcher down to the operating system. Every component is public and every feature is its own pull request.

Car Launcher
Custom Compose launcher and the reverse-engineering notes for a rooted Choiceway GT6-EAU (QCM6125) head unit.

rav4-apps
26 clean-room replacement apps for the unit's built-in software, each a standalone package, built without Gradle.
Riposte OS
Custom Android for the unit. First the stock image re-mastered, then a GSI build with its own MCU owner service.
Signed builds
Release APKs for the launcher, signed with a real key and served to the car's browser for in-place updates.
mobile-gate
A MikroTik mAP in the car. WireGuard to a hub, Tailscale on top, so the head unit stays on the home network wherever the car is.
Head unit farm
Emulated 1920×720 panels for UI checks, driven by an agent that reads the Compose hierarchy instead of screenshots.
Software
Small tools with few dependencies. The browser applications keep files on the user's machine.
glitchlock
Reversible, keyed bitstream scrambling for MPEG-2, MPEG-4, H.264, HEVC and MP2. Above: this page's portrait as an MPEG-2 carrier after glitchlock lock, still a valid stream. unlock with the key returned the carrier byte for byte.

Cutsheet
Lay out images on a print sheet, set bleed and margins, and generate cut lines for a vinyl cutter. Images never leave the browser.

Glitzy
An FFglitch sticker studio that feeds artwork straight into Cutsheet.
Smear
FFglitch for video files and live streams. Parameters change on air through a control file the script re-reads.
licensetree
A repository licence auditor with an interactive tree explorer. A 51-repo corpus is its test suite.
riposte-api
The company as an API: programmes, materials, calculators, brand tokens. Stdlib Python, 27 routes. Published figures come back as published; everything else declares its assumptions.
rl-sentinel
Checks the invariants of the home infrastructure daily and reports the results to an e-paper panel.
Broadcast and publishing
Channel Z0
A linear TV channel run from a house. ErsatzTV playout, one RTMP uplink, generative station idents cut from code. Above: the FFglitch bump montage that runs in the breaks.

channel-z0
The whole station as a repo: schedules, bumps, L-system intervals, the storefront and the test card.

Daily Bread
A queer magazine for the Okanagan, baked quarterly in Kelowna. Static web edition in 16 languages, a browser studio, signed proofs. The subtitle above cycles through all 16, each fitted with pretext.
Research
2019 to 2021Optimal transport, derivative-free optimisation and tooling for machine-learning experiments. Code for each project is public.
No-collision transportation maps
Approximates optimal transport maps with k-d trees. Code for the paper, Journal of Scientific Computing 2020, benchmarked against POT.
maestro
A command-line dispatcher and monitor for machine-learning experiments across GPUs, written for the Oberman Lab.
nomad
Surrogate functions inside the NOMAD blackbox-optimisation framework. Course project, fall 2020.
save-the-north
A COVID-19 simulation built at Hack the North 2020++.
